Adam Roach, RN, BSN was born and raised in Melbourne Australia.  He moved to the United States 21 years ago to experience travel nursing in hospital emergency rooms, and found his home in Albuquerque NM 2 years later.  He has over 15 years of Hospice experience and feels he has found his life’s passion.  That is to support patients, families and caregivers in navigating and understanding the end of life journey.  Adam’s goal is to provide our community with the premier Hospice service.  He has worked in multiple roles during his tenure and has over 12 years experience as Executive Director.  Adam feels fortunate to work with a strong community network which he has built during his time in hospice care.

Melanie Theriot, RN moved to Albuquerque at the age of 7 and considers herself a native New Mexican. She has worked with the Geriatric population since 2010 as both a Resident Aide and RN. She has been in hospice for the past 7 years as a Nurse Case Manager, Admissions Nurse, Patient Care Manager, and Director of Clinical Services. She is passionate about hospice because this is a time in people’s lives when they need extra support for themselves and their loved ones. She loves that the approach is holistic involving multiple team members and that the person under care is in charge. Everyone deserves compassion and dignity, and it is her goal to see that each person receives it.  Melanie is especially skilled at educating and supporting her team members.

Rachel Rankin, MD was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. She received her medical degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, IL and did her residency training in Family Medicine in Denver, CO at St. Jospeh's Hospital. She practiced Family Medicine as an outpatient doctor for almost a decade in rural southern Colorado and in Bernalillo, NM before going to the University of New Mexico for a Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship in 2018. She has found a passion for hospice and palliative medicine and has worked doing both since she finished fellowship.

 

Dr. Rankin is passionate and committed to educating our community and our emerging clinicians (nurses, nurse practitioners, medical students, residents and palliative medicine fellows) about what excellent whole person and interdisciplinary hospice care looks like.  She is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this team to serve the Albuquerque area community to offer the very best hospice care available.

Daniel A James, RN moved to Albuquerque in 1998 and found his new home. While Daniel enjoyed making a difference in the acute care setting such as the Emergency Department, the Medical and Cardiac ICU, and enjoyed Flight Nursing for many years, he found his true calling in 2018 when he joined Adam and Melanie in providing hospice care for the New Mexico Community. Hospice Care brought out the compassion, drive and fulfillment that revitalized his purpose and calling for the New Mexico Community.  He found that he was passionate about providing exceptional care and going the extra mile to make sure every patient's limited time was as comfortable and meaningful as possible for them and for their loved ones.

Medical Director

Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Dr. FitzGerald came to New Mexico from Maine for her Internal Medicine residency and Hospice and Palliative fellowship training in 2011 and was enchanted. She practiced palliative medicine at the University of New Mexico Hospital for 8 years and enjoyed her role teaching in the UNM School of Medicine and in multiple residency and fellowship programs. She has additional training in integrative medicine and acupuncture.

 

Dr. FitzGerald has interests in teaching the art of medicine, in achieving justice in healthcare, in narrative medicine, and practicing acupuncture and osteopathic “hands on” medicine. She derives great meaning from making deep connections with her patients and their families by practicing generous listening and loves caring for members of her community in the places they call home.  Dr. Fitz feels honored to care for humans at such a sacred stage of life with the phenomenal Bosque Trails Hospice team.

Nurse Practitioner

Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Elizabeth Paterson, ACNP, ACHPN was born and raised in Virginia. She came to New Mexico shortly after graduating from college and stayed for the diverse culture, the food and a love of our sky. New Mexico is lucky to have lured her to stay as she graduated with her BSN from the University of New Mexico in 1999 and worked as a burn & trauma nurse and then an ER nurse before returning to school to get her nurse practitioner degree (MSN from UNM 2004, Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner). Elizabeth then got an advanced degree in Hospice and Palliative medicine and has been taking care of the New Mexico community working as a nurse practitioner in hospice and palliative medicine for the last 15 years. She has a passion for teaching and has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at UNM’s College of Nursing and continues to do some teaching and mentoring for our next generation of nurses and nurse practitioners. Her other passions include providing nail care to our patients, New Mexico’s native traditions and hiking. We are thrilled to have her on our Bosque Trails Hospice team.
